Susan Clement: Self Expression through Art.
I was born and raised in New Hampshire, USA in a small town called Pinardville, just outside of West Manchester, New Hampshire. It was during a time when going outside to play meant total freedom to do whatever your heart desired and you could adventure out as far as you dared to go. I often chose to venture out into the forest where I could turn over rocks and find orange spotted salamanders and hold them in my hand or lay on my back and make out animals in the clouds in the blue blue sky.
It was my love of nature that inspired me to re-create the beauty I discovered in my many childhood adventures. I’ve always felt a compelling need to draw and paint the pictures that I took in my mind and draw them on the black tar road in front of our house with old pieces of drywall chalk left behind by the building contractors in the neighborhood.
As I went through my academic years, I found art class to be my favorite place to be as I had an undeniable need to express myself through painting and drawing.
My medium of choice is oil on canvas with seascapes being the prime subject of my paintings in a style which encompasses a combination of Impressionistic and a touch of Realism. I also like to paint abstracts, still life, and landscapes. Most of my commission work has included buildings and people recently so I must add this in as well!
For fun and a change of pace, I paint in acrylic on slate stone creating Welcome Signs, Name, Garden and Barn Signs & Horses.
